Ring Of Fire | Justin Monroe Unleashes the Dragon

Beginning of April Justin Monroe released his very first video project. The video is a dragon themed short film that has every element that is quintessential Justin Monroe. Justin: “I have always wanted to do short films, music videos, etc. I Just recently met an incredibly talented cinematographer and editor by the mane of Toby Divine. From our first meeting we just clicked. He saw what I saw and it totally get him too. He has been a fan of my work and me from his so it was the perfect marriage. I truly love video media. Its a way to make my images move.”

Justin Monroe’s Ring Of Fire is everything you would expect it to be. Coinciding with the theme of 2012's Chinese zodiac of the year of the dragon, the video takes place in Shanghai in the far off future. In this time humans have evolved with animals to this type of hybrid human / dragon. There is a fat king of this city who takes great pleasure in watching these dragons having sex for him. The whole film is seen through a blind geisha who has created all of these images of this dreamscape sequences in the eyes of her imagination. “Half way through filming Ring of Fire I started imaging my next project,” Justin continues. “I guess you can say I'm hooked!!!! I will always love still photography as well, but you will be seeing a lot of moving images from me in the future. So stay tuned boys and girls.” –BM-

Today is the first round of the French Presidential elections. The French President is elected for 5 years, so it is always quite a happening when it comes along again. I won’t say the campaign circus is of American proportions, but believe me if I tell you it is big. And rightfully so. Within the next 2 weeks history will change, no matter what the outcome. And just like before, the French elections will be followed by other main electoral events, such as the American and German elections. All together we are facing a time of change.

It is interesting to think about how the small decisions we make every day can become history altering events. A choice made can be like a small stone in a quiet pond, causing a ripple effect that – directed in a certain way – can result in a tidal wave. For the first time in 15 years, the French democrats stand a reasonable chance for victory. If so, it might change a lot. Or nothing at all. When Nicolas Sarkozy was asked what could have been the golden idea to win the elections, the answer was abundantly clear: same sex wedding and child adoption. Just that decision which seems relatively small in the history of the world could have been the flap of his butterfly’s wing that could cause a storm of victory. Alas, it is too late for that now. France is pressing the first button today and will – by doing so – have once again the opportunity to set a course that can change the political face of the Western world. May the best man win. For me that would be the man who strives for equality for everyone. His wings are truly the most beautiful. –BM-

His playing ground is dating site GayRomeo. This is where Thomas Bourry finds his subjects. His men are not international models. They are the boys next door. Sexy and handsome in their simplicity. Emotional and human. And all eager to play a part in the imaginary world of the Spinx.

Looking at Thomas Bourry’s photographs is like looking into a mirror. The scenes are all too familiar. Lust and love, companionship and loneliness, comfort and fear. It is all there and at the same time it is not. Because Thomas’ portraits are not two dimensional and more often than not there is more going on than you would first think. His art stimulates and provokes you to interpret the scene to your own state of mind.

“In my new pictures you can discover sadness, irony and in the end even sex too,” Thomas explains. “Each one has its own story to tell, all a reflection of emotions and desire. I did my best to create moments that are wrapped in a atmosphere of intimacy and privacy - and situations which are a little mysterious as the sphinx itself. In the end you will see in a picture only that, what you are looking for and what you are expect to see - Flesh or Soul.”

Thomas Bourry, living and working in Cologne, likes to play with contrasts and symbolism: “I like so much to play with the contrast of the sex symbol man and a toy, such as the teddy bear, only to show that even the hottest guys are more then just sex monsters, that they have a heart too and know also very good, what lovepain is all about.” Over the past years Thomas has shot more than 100 men and every time he introduces us to some new faces. Non of them professional, all of them willing to give it their best. His choice in models and the fact he shoots in black and white contrasts his need of constructing his scenes within the tiniest details. It creates images that seem more real than photographs that are natural and unstaged.

New men are introduced in John Boy, Pure and Fearless, but also The Ultimate Boyfriend, Gay Paradise, Three and Hero. And if you take a close look you discover that these titles are more true than you would have thought in the first place. Featuring in these 4 photo’s are Billy, Carlos and Tyson, the world famous gay doll that was introduced to the world by its creator John McKitterick in 1997. These 4 images are Thomas’ hommage to Billy and his friends, the first out and proud gay dolls that were created as the ultimate perfection and male sexsymbols, the super star of a gay man’s dream. Ronnie Reg Waite... Fancy a Cuppa?

SOMETIMES WHEN YOU LOOK AT SOMEONE YOU CAN ALMOST GUESS WHAT HIS ORIGIN IS. IT IS STRANGE REALLY, BUT PROBABLY HAS TO DO WITH GENES THAT GO WAY BACK IN HISTORY. ANALYZING THIS YOU CAN IDENTIFY CERTAIN FEATURES THAT ARE MORE COMMON IN SOME REGIONS THAN IN OTHERS. ANALYZING THIS MAKES YOU OFTEN SAY, OH HE IS DUTCH, OR OH, HE IS NORDIC, OR OH, HE IS ITALIAN. IN THE CASE OF RONNIE REG WAITE YOU PROBABLY WOULD SAY, OH HE IS BRITISH.

Hearing Ronnie Reg Waite speak it already gives it away. Ronnie is British. But we came to that conclusion before we could hear him already. There is something in his look. Could it be his eyes, always a bit half closed, giving him that sleepy, dreamy look. Could it be his mouth, seductive and inviting with full lips, or could it be his nose, prominent and masculine, giving him a boyish yet manly look. I think it is the combination of all these facial features, mixed with his cropped hair and goatee that give Ronnie such an European look. And not just European, I even dare to say British.

Ronnie Reg Waite was born in a town just outside of Liverpool and that confirms our first guess. You only have to look at early pictures of The Beatles to see the resemblance we were referring to before. Only 26 years old, Ronnie has left his hometown a long time ago and has been spotted in cities all over the world. London, Paris, Sydney, San Francisco. A force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry, Ronnie Reg Waite is not the kind of guy to sit still for a long time. "I am a person who likes to do and try a lot in life. I am always happy because life is way too short to be hung up over thing's."

But not matter where Ronnie’s travels bring him, his heart still belongs to his home. "I am always meeting new people but my friends and family are where my heart is." And so, after having spent a year in San Francisco, meeting people and working different jobs and assignments, Ronnie Reg wait will return to England to go back to University. A loss for the rest of the world? Not necessarily. Because Ronnie has set his min on a career in the television business, and with the camera experience he already has, we wouldn’t be surprised if we will hear and see more of Ronnie Reg Waite in the near future.

Joe Mazza was born and raised in Los Angeles but has long since changed his hometown for San Francisco. His natural facination for the human condition – communication through both looks and body language – stands at the origin of his successful career as photographer. Both in portraits and fashion as in artistic art. Whatever the assignment, and who ever he has in front of his camera, Joe always searches for intimacy. To go beyond the image of his subject and search for the models deeper self. And so it is important that he has an instant good feeling and relationship with the models he shoots: "I was doing a photo shoot a few months back and Ronnie was one of the models. If you spend two minutes with him you realize he's a force of nature, one of the sweetest and most genuine guys you'll ever meet. He's totally invested in making sure the images turn out well and gives 110% to the shoot, all the while making you laugh and forgetting it was work. As a photographer, it's always a nice treat to meet a model that you have such great chemistry with and an even nicer to treat to be able to call him a friend."

Joe Mazza plans to visit London in the not too far future. Ronnie Reg Waite is probably not the reason why Joe travels to the UK, but for sure he is on Joe’s agenda for another shoot. There is simply something irresistible about Ronnie. Let’s just face it, British guys are sexy. Maybe it’s their pale skin. Maybe it’s the look in their eyes. IN fact, British guys are like British tea. Strong with a touch of sweetness and a cloud of milk. Fancy a cuppa? –BM-

BUT THAT ALL HAS COME TO AN END AND THE PEOPLE FROM EACH COUNTRY HAVE COME TO ACCEPT AND LOVE EACH OTHER. MANY BRITS HAVE FOUND A SECOND HOME IN FRANCE AND VICE VERSA. AND WITH THE COMPLETION OF THE EUROTUNNEL IN 1994 THIS TRAFFIC BETWEEN THE TWO RIVALING COUNTRIES ONLY INCREASED AND BROUGHT THEM CLOSER TOGETHER.

Only a few centuries ago it took ages for people to connect with each other. Travel was done by carriage or by foot, and written correspondence carried on horseback. Since then a lot has changed and these days we step into a plane as easy as we once climbed a cart and mail horses haven been replaced by email and social networks. And so it has come to happen that people from all over the world can meet each other in a split second. It makes the world a smaller place and building relationships much easier and more exciting.

Issac Jones met his boyfriend through the Internet. At that time Issac lived in the French Loire Valley, approximately 500 kilometers away from the man he fell in love with. That didn’t stop him though and 2 years ago he packed his bags, hopped on the train and traveled to the United Kingdom to start a new life with his partner in Ashford, Kent. And from Ashford, Issac is now connecting with the rest of the world. Through his work and his website.

There are many porn actors and it seems like everyday another one is joining this fast growing segment. But not everyone has the possibility to call themselves a porn star. Issac Jones does. Secretly willing to try porn for a long time already, but not being sure he had what it takes, it was actually Issac’s boyfriend who encouraged the handsome Frenchman to give it a shot. He did and he shot in the right direction. Straight to the top. Only being active in gay adult entertainment for a relatively short period of time, Issac Jones is already recognized as the kind of guy who’s got what it takes to make it big. No pun intended. Issac Jones is hot. Issac Jones is a star. But Issac Jones is also just a regular guy, who lives with his lover in a small town in England.

Mircius Aecrim lives, workes and goes to school in Bucharest. He started photography only 5 years ago after being exposed to the now famous Dieux du Stade calendars. He boldly bought a camera, started experimenting, went to the New York Institute of Photography and embarked on a study at the National Art school in Bucharest. For his school he shot his Naked Men at Home project. And since Mircius doesn’t do half work, he carefully selected his men. The first one was Scott Hunter, whom we interviewed not too long ago, and the second was Issac Jones. Mircius Aecrim traveled to Ashford and shot Issac in his most private environment. His home. The result: a stunning set of portaits of a man who has shot to the top of the gay adult industry like a comet. Though perfectly staged, the photographs look like snapshots, showing a side of Issac that you hardly ever see. Vulnerable, intimate, sensitive. Dean, welcome back. In 2007 ago we introduced you to our readers, the few who didn’t know you yet, being a man who radiates sexuality and sensuality and someone to watch out for. Now, 5 years later, you proofed us right. How has your life been over the past 5 years.
Dean: Busy. I've been shooting  more porn than ever before. Exciting. I've been shooting more and more artistic material and doing more personal appearances and events. And challenging. I'm starting to work on and create projects that I've been dreaming of doing for many years. So yes its been an upward curve of success.

Even though there are names in the porn business that for many come easier to mind, you are extremely popular. You have one of the largest fan bases in the industry and have starred in some very popular films. Would you call yourself iconic?
Dean: I've always worked hard at what I do and enjoy every minute of it. I hope that comes through in my performances. I take this work very seriously and appreciate all the fan's support. Iconic is a really heavy word to use. I just always wanted to stand out from the rest of the pack and would love to be remember in the industry as a passionate performer and model.

What is it you like most about your career in the gay adult industry?
Dean: The porn industry has allowed me to be able to express myself artistically in many ways. Through film, photography and music. I've been able to travel a lot and of course have sex with some incredible men.

Besides film and modeling, you are also active in music? Can you tell us a bit more about that?
Dean: Well if you remember I released a single in 2008 "Closer to You", which was just an experiment for me to see if I could write , produce and perform. I was overwhelmed by the response of people who knew me as a porn actor but also those who just heard the song and fell in love with it without realizing who i was. Also in 2010 I did a 5 week run in the stage musical Naked Boys Singing in London. That was one of the most exciting experiences for me to perform in front of a theatre crowd. Music has always been a huge part of my life and I wont rule out any more projects in the future.

Let’s talk about your blog Dean. In 2006 you launched Dean Monroe’s World and you have been able to feed it with both professional and personal stories, which is quite unique. How do you experience writing your blog and how do your fans react to it?
Dean: I use my blog as a way to communicate to my fans and anyone else who is interested. I post on it like a journal so sometimes it's porn related and sometimes it's travel, modeling, or just personal experiences. The hits keep increasing day by day. I believe now I get about 2000 hits a day on average and I'm always surprised at how seriously some fans follow it. I write what's on my mind and always enjoy going back to read people's comments, positive or negative.

Let’s move to your latest adventure Dean. A book. And not just a book but a book that is probably the most revealing and personal book released by a porn actor to date. What is it about?
Dean: The book is really an evolution of the blog. Its a collection of photographs from my childhood to the present day with my own commentary and story telling. Its set in  chronological order so it covers every aspect of my life to date. Im really excited about sharing it with everyone. I put a lot of effort into it and it contains things I've never shared with anyone before.

Not only is Dean Monroe’s World a visual culmination of your career, it goes much further back and reveals a Dean Monroe in a most personal and intimate way. What made you decide to share your personal life to that degree with the rest of the world?
Dean: I wanted people to know my background and the events and experiences that led my to this point in my life. Porn is still frowned upon as a degrading seedy business so with this book I want to show all the positive aspects of it in a beautiful artistic way and show that a porn actor's life is not just about sex in front of a camera.

Was it difficult to put it all together? How long did it take you?
Dean: It was incredibly challenging sifting through thousands of images, deciding how to lay the book out. Which events and points in my life to share an also to have a good balance of porn material, artistic photography, text, and private material. And all this in just 160 pages. I think I worked on it for 2 months before it was sent for approval and printing.

Besides photos, will there be anekdotes and stories in your book that makes us get to know you more intimate? We know for example of your encounter with Madonna years ago, and a rumoured love affair with a celebrity actor. Will there be some revealing stories?
Dean: I think some of the images in the book will really surprise people. Also I write about some very personal feelings and emotions I went through over the years, and there are a few confessions and a revelation right at the end of the book.

Why should one purchase your book? What is the message you want to give with it?
Dean: I want anyone buying my book to take a way a very important, interesting and revealing part of my life, an art piece, an exclusive look into the gay porn world and a story of a guy who has managed to use the sex industry as a positive and successful tool.

How do you see your career evolve from here Dean?
Dean: I know porn will always be a huge part of my life. I still see myself involved in it whether its behind the camera in a more creative way. The porn industry is evolving constantly at a past pace and I want to be the first to try and find new ways to bring sex to the consumer in new and exciting ways. I want to release some more music material once the book is released so watch and listen to this space. –BM-

From Russia with Love

NEVER HAS THERE BEEN A STRONGER LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES THAN THE BOND BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION. THE RELATION BETWEEN THE TWO WORLD POWERS DATES BACK AS FAR AS THE SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY, HAS KNOWN MAJOR UPS AND DOWNS AND INFLUENCED THE WORLD AS NO OTHER COUNTRY RELATION HAS EVER DONE.

After the American colonies declared their independence from the British Empire in 1776, the Empress Catherine the Great from Russia made the bold decision to keep up trade relations with America while staying neutral in the conflict that in one way or the other influenced pretty much every European country. By her refusal to support the British Empire while keeping the trade with the colony open, Russia played a significant role in America’s independence. Ever since then, the United States of America kept friendly bonds with the Russian Empire until the W.O.I brought an end to the monarchy in Russia. And when in 1922 the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was established, America turned her back to this new and strange nation and looked upon it with eyes of doubt and suspicion.

It took another 25 years with small ups and downs and even an alliance during W.O.II before the Cold War broke loose in 1947. For 44 years the world kept her breath while the USA and USSR fought a silent battle for domination in large regions of our planet. The USSR closed its borders, not only for the United States but pretty much for the rest of the world, and became known as the Evil Empire. But when the Sovjet Union fell apart in 1991, relationships between the two nations slowly started to warm up again. And when the diplomacy improved, so did traffic between the two countries.

Andre was born in 1987 during the last years of the Sovjet regime. Already one year before Presidents Reagan and Gorbachev had come close to an agreement to eliminate all nuclear weapons and share the Star Wars defense technologies. And while young Andre grew up, innocent and unaware of the shift in political power, his country as his parents knew it slowly slid to the point of dissolvement. Andre was 4 years old when the Sovjet Union stopped exisiting, and all of a sudden he found himself living in Russia, and without him understanding it yet, his future opened before him like a blossoming flower unfolds its petals.

2 years ago Andre emigrated to the United States. Now living in Long Island, New York, Andre has started a promising career as model. Sensitive and creative as he is, Andre is open for every assignment that knock on his door. He is willing to try everything, which maybe is a characteristic shaped by his eary years in a country where everything was controlled. Being a practiced dancer, Andre is very conscious about his body: “Being a dancer has helped my modeling career a huge deal. Understanding my body and being able to give off a certain vibes/looks makes me a good model. I’m pretty open as far what I'm willing to do and not do. There’s little I won't do. I view the human body as art. I'm a photographers canvas.”

Red hair, Slavic features and pale skin. An openness to life in general and willingness to try everything at least once, Andre is pretty much the dream of every photographer. Seth London, who lives just like Andre in Long Island, has worked with Andre on 2 occasions already. Andre works hard and is determined to make it in the business. And with an attitude like that he might very well succeed. It took years for the United States and the former Sovjet Union to come back together and now, finally, the opportunities are unlimited. Andre has taken them with both hands. He lives the American dream to its fullest. But sometimes he thinks back to where he came from. Especially when the summer comes, which reminds him of his family and the beach vacations they used to take a lifetime ago and half a world away. –BM-
